Meet Dr. Justin Chelette

Dr. Justin Chelette speaking to a packed auditorium at an optometry conference in Kraków, Poland

Speaking at Optometria, Kraków, Poland

Dr. Justin Chelette is a residency-trained developmental optometrist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). His clinical work centers on the visual conditions that get missed most often: binocular vision disorders, post-concussion visual dysfunction, learning-related vision problems, dizziness, and migraine, the kind of symptoms a patient has usually been told are "normal" by two or three other providers before they ever land in a developmental optometrist's chair.

A lot of that work is neuro-optometric rehabilitation, retraining a visual system after injury or disrupted development rather than simply correcting a refractive error. It's slower, more investigative work than a standard eye exam, and it's the part of the field he cares about most.

Teaching runs alongside all of it. He's lectured to optometrists and students both nationally and internationally, has taught at two different optometry schools, and built out structured coursework for other eye care professionals who want the parts of developmental optometry their own training left out. See It Differently grew directly out of that instinct, to take the neuroscience that shapes his clinical decisions and make it legible to anyone willing to sit with it for a few minutes.

Clinical Focus

What he treats

Binocular Vision Disorders

Convergence insufficiency, binocular vision dysfunction, strabismus, and the eye-teaming problems that hide behind a normal 20/20 exam.

Concussion & Neuro-Rehab

Post-concussion visual dysfunction, vestibular-visual mismatch, and the oculomotor deficits standard neurological workups routinely miss.

Learning Related Vision Problems

The visual processing and eye-movement problems that get mistaken for ADHD, dyslexia, or a motivation problem.

Dizziness & Migraine

Cases where the visual system, not just the vestibular or neurological system, is driving the symptom picture.

Educator, Speaker & Course Creator

Teaching is the other half of the job

Dr. Chelette has lectured to optometrists and optometry students across the country and abroad, has taught at two different optometry schools, and built structured continuing education for practicing ODs, alongside resources written directly for the parents and patients trying to make sense of a diagnosis. Whether the audience is a room full of clinicians or a parent reading their first article on convergence insufficiency, the goal is the same: take something genuinely complicated and make it usable.

Why See It Differently Exists

The gap this is meant to close

Over years of clinical practice, a pattern kept repeating: patients who'd struggled for years before anyone considered that vision might be part of the problem. Parents who'd been told to be patient. Adults who'd been told their eyes were "fine" and left to keep struggling anyway. Often, the providers along the way weren't at fault so much as under-informed, optometry school spends comparatively little time on how the brain uses vision for reading, balance, attention, and daily function.

See It Differently exists to close that gap, one clear explanation at a time, for the clinician looking for a next diagnosis and the parent trying to understand one.
